Stained glass window In memory of Mrs Wilkinson Smith, 1912.
St Anne prophetess, Madonna and child, St Elizabeth, St Simeon the prophet, Judith, St Zachary. The banners contain references to canticles, i.e. Verses from the Latin vulgate version of the Bible, set to music.
In the head of the window, five angels and saints hold Latin banners including: Te Deum laudamus. (Thee O God we praise). Tu Rex Victoria Christe (O Christ thou art the King of Glory). Tu Patris sempiternus es Filius. (Thou art the son of the Eternal Father). Ecce ancilla Domini fiat mecum secondum verbum tuum. (Behold the handmaiden of the Lord… Luke 1.38).
Saint Anne has: Speravit anima mea in Domino; a custodia matutina usque ad noctem Speret Israel in Domino. (My soul hath put its hopes in the Lord; from the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord (Psalm 130).
St Elizabeth points to the Holy Child holding a banner: Ecce agnus dei (Behold the Lamb of God). St Simeon has: Lumen ad revelationem gentium et ad Gloria plebis tuae Israel. (A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel). St Zachary has: Benedictus Dominus Deus Israel. (Blessed be the Lord God of Israel). Beneath is Magnificat anima mea Dominum Et exultavit spiritus meus In Deo salutari meo. (My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. (Luke 1.48))
