Farmhouse, now house. Late C17 with C18, and early and mid- to late C19
alterations and additions. Timber framed with painted brick nogging on
sandstone rubble plinth; red brick partial rebuilding and additions to
north-east; plain tile and hipped slate roofs. H-plan; hall range of
probably 2 or 3 framed bays aligned north-east/south-west with flanking
projecting gabled cross-wings and later addition to south-east. One
storey and attic over basement to north-east, and 2 storeys at rear.
North-west front: dentil brick eaves cornice to left and parapeted
gable end to rear of right-hand cross-wing; gabled semi-dormer to left
and gabled dormer to right, both with 2-light wooden casements; central
brick ridge stack, integral brick lateral stack to left-hand cross-wing,
and lateral stack to addition at rear. Framing: square panels, 3 from
sole-plate to wall-plate; exposed collar and tie-beam truss with queen
struts in right-hand cross-wing. C20 two-light wooden casement on each
floor of right-hand cross-wing; first-floor C19 segmental-headed wooden
cross-window and ground-floor C20 three-light wooden casement to left-
hand cross-wing; ground-floor C20 lean-to addition in front of hall
range with two C20 three-light leaded wooden casements, leaded half-glazed
door to right, and recessed porch to left with 4-light leaded wooden
casement and boarded door. Left-hand return front of 2 bays with ground-
floor segmental-headed wooden cross-windows and segmental-headed 2-light
wooden basement windows. Flat-roofed eaves dormer at rear of hall range
with 2-light leaded casement; C19 three-light segmental-headed wooden
casements to rear of south-west cross-wing and C19 two-light segmental-
headed wooden casements to rear of north-west cross-wing. Early C19
addition at rear with dentil brick eaves cornice; 2 storeys 2 bays,
glazing bar sashes, first floor painted imitation sash to right and
ground floor to left with slightly segmental head; C20 four-panelled
door to right with C20 hipped porch with pair of leaded half-glazed
doors and flanking leaded lights. Interior not inspected but said to
contain a large open fireplace with chamfered lintel, chamfered beams,
ledged doors, oak staircases, oak panelling, moulded cornices and timber
framed cross-walls.
