Pair of houses, now flats, and adjoining boundary wall.
c1845-50. By TC Hine of Nottingham for the 4th Duke of
Newcastle. Altered c1870 and C20. Stucco, with stucco
dressings and slate roof with 2 central coped stacks.
Rusticated basement, ground floor sill band, eaves cornice,
balustrade with pedestals. Windows are mainly original glazing
bar sashes with moulded surrounds. 2 storeys plus 2 storey
front basement; 5 window range.
Main front, to garden, has to left a canted bay window, c1870,
3 storeys, with a coped panelled external stack flanked by
plain sashes. To right, lower basement has a large canted bay
window, 5 lights, with a rooflight. Upper basement has an
additional bay to right, and 5 sashes, 2 of them reglazed.
Upper floors, divided by giant Ionic pilasters, have 4 sashes,
2 to left with blind boxes.
Left return, to North Road, c1870, has first floor sill band
and minor cornice. Irregular fenestration, mainly plain
sashes, including a projecting double sash to right, under a
pediment.
Rear has 2 bay windows, c1870, single storey and 2 storeys.
Boundary wall, red brick, with blue brick plinth and coping,
runs from the left front corner in a curve following North
Road and Newcastle Drive. Approx 2m high and 40m long. Near
the houses, a gateway with square piers and coped flat gable.
This building is part of an early scheme by the 4th Duke of
Newcastle to develop the Park Estate.
