Former north lodge to Park Estate

GV II

Lodge to the Park Estate, now detached basement to Walton's
Hotel (qv). c1832-34. By TC Hine of Nottingham for the 4th
Duke of Newcastle. Rockfaced stone and ashlar. Roof covered
with earth.
Plinth, moulded string course, coped parapet with terracotta
roundels. Windows boarded. Single storey; 3 bays. The building
functions partly as a retaining wall to the bank at a road
junction. To left, a projecting round bay with 3 windows, and
to left, facing North Road, a door. Derby Road front has a
central round-arched window, flanked to left by a window and
to right by another door.
INTERIOR has brick jack arches carried on cast-iron beams.
This building is part of an early scheme by the 4th Duke of
Newcastle to develop the Park Estate.
