House and attached boundary wall and lych gate. Dated 1886. By
Watson Fothergill of Nottingham. Red brick with rock-faced
stone basement, ashlar and black brick dressings, and timber
framing with patterned brick nogging. Gabled and hipped plain
tile roofs with 3 tall, moulded brick stacks.
Windows are mainly original plain sashes in cross mullioned
wooden frames. 2 and 3 storeys plus basement and attics; 3
window range. U-plan, on an acute angled, sloping corner site.
Garden front, to south-east, has a recessed centre flanked by
a square tower to left and a gabled bay to right. In the
centre, double steps with landing and ramped coped balustrade
wall. Glazed lean-to porch between the wings, with central
door. Above, 2 windows. Tower to left has pyramidal roof and
coped side wall stack. Hipped bay window, 3-lights, and above,
a smaller 3-light window. Second floor, timber-framed, also
has a 3-light window. Right wing has a hipped, canted bay
window, 5-lights, and above, a segment-arched 3-light window.
Rear has to right a lean-to projection with stepped coped side
walls, and above it, a canted bay window with octagonal spire
roof. Above again, to left, a hipped dormer. Rear wing has a
hipped single storey projection.
Boundary wall, rock-faced stone and brick, runs across the
rear along Newcastle drive, then via a semicircular curve to
Tattershall Drive. Brick section, at the rear, has plinth,
buttresses and shaped brick coping. Central gabled lychgate
with panelled door. The brick section follows the curve, with
an increasingly deep stone plinth. Stone section, to
Tattershall Drive, has stepped rubble coping and a plain
gateway. Total length approx 75m.
