Pair of houses, now flats, and attached railings and wall.
c1845-50. By TC Hine of Nottingham for the 4th Duke of
Newcastle. Restored late C20. Stucco with slate roof and 4
coped side wall stacks.
Rusticated basement and ground floor, first floor sill band,
eaves cornice and blocking course. Windows are mainly original
glazing bar sashes. 3 storeys plus front basement; 4 window
range plus set back side bays.
Garden front, to south, has 4 windows to each floor and to
basement. First and second floors are divided by giant Ionic
pilasters. Left side bay has irregular fenestration, 2
windows. Right side bay has a round cornered casement, 2
lights, and above, segment-arched sashes, all with moulded
surrounds.
Right return has Italianate fenestration, with 3 round
cornered 2-light casements with wooden mullions, and above,
single sashes with segment arches, all with moulded surrounds.
Return, to rear, has a 6-panel door and overlight, and above,
single windows, all in the same style. Main rear elevation has
regular courses of glazing bar sashes, and an inserted entry
to right.
Outside, to left, an attached cast-iron area railing, and to
right, a coped, rendered area wall.
This building is part of an early scheme by the 4th Duke of
Newcastle to develop the Park Estate.
