Inscription: Jacobus Noel, Baptistae Vicomitis Campden Et 4ta Uxore Elizabeta Montacuti Comitis de Lindsay Magni Camerarii Anglis Filia. Filius 5tus ingentis spei iuvenis, forma praecellens aeque ac statura eminens; insigni supra annos, tam animi quam corporis cultu et vigore praeditis, obiit Iunii 24 1681, aetatis suae 18. -Quem Puerum forsan facies dixissit et aetas/ Fecerat hunc virtus, atque statura virum,/ Maturus vixit, licet immaturus obivit,/ Ingenii vis hoc, mors dedit illud, opus-. -Great as his birth did all his actions show,/ His very recreations spoke him so./ Sprightly his mien, yet grave, discrete and wise/ Free from the age’s Grand debaucherys/ Virtue with stature still his years outran,/ He dyd in’s nonage and yet lived a man-. Eodem fato coniunctus Lindseius eiusdem Baptistae et Elizabetae filius primulas, qui obiit anniculus Martii 12 Anno Domini 1656. Item eorundem Parentum Filius 4tus cui ob praeproperum nimis fatum defuit praenomen 1662. Translation: James Noel, fifthborn son and youthful hope of Baptist, Viscount Campden and his fourth wife Elizabeth Montague, daughter of the Earl of Lindsay, High Chamberlain of England, excellently formed and tall, distinguished beyond his years, gifted by a mind and body cultured and fit, died June 24th 1681 aged 18 years… Lindsey, the firstborn of the abovesaid Baptist and Elizabeth was joined in the same fate and who died in his minority March 12th 1656. From the same parents, their fourth son, of excellent promise, was taken by fate in 1662. (Photo Sept 2014).
