House, formerly two, and possibly agricultural in origin. C15-early C16,
altered C18 and C19. High base wall and right gable end are of rubble stone.
Right bays retain timber framing with colourwashed brick infill, but have been
raised in brick. Left bays rebuilt in brick and colourwashed,C19-C20 tiled roof
with rendered chimney to centre and brick chimney to left. 2 storeys and
cellars; 4 bays. 2 and 3-light horizontal sliding sashes to the ground floor
with 6 windows, the upper storey with 5. Two flush-panelled doors, that to
centre with arched timber lintel above, that between left bays in late C19
wooden doorcase with moulded pilaster strips and frieze. Outer bays have
cellars with C20 board doors to front, the left bay also with 2-light window,
the right with front wall rebuilt in brick. Later outshots to rear. Interior:
centre bays have cruck framing, with 3 cruck trusses in all. Outer trusses have
halved and pegged joints at apex; central truss has yoked apex with ridge rest-
ing on short king post. All trusses are quite roughly hewn and have no signs of
smoke blackening. Right cruck bay retains original purlins and heavy floor
joists. Other floors have been inserted at later date. Central chimney is C17
but has altered fireplace.
