Statement of Interest

Building empty and deteriorating. Sutherland estate

papers show that George Devey of London, who in due course

became a well known and prolific country house architect,

travelled to Sutherland in the late 1850's. He did much

to establish the characteristic 'Arts and Crafts' style

Sutherland estate architecture of the 1860's and 70's.
