Description

Probably Sir Robert Lorimer, circa 1920 incorporating
Italianate garden pavilion by Sir Charles Barry, 1834-1842
as central feature.
Spacious enclosure surrounded by low ashlar balustrade
linking semi-circular stone bench seats. Centre polished
ashlar square canopied arch with engaged angle columns
with Corinthian capitals linked to keystones by swags;
shallow pyramidal roof with apex cross.
Various 20th century Sutherland tombs.

Statement of Interest

Centre pavilion was one of series in the Italianate

gardens designed by Sir Charles Barry for Trentham,

Staffordshire, for the 2nd Duke of Sutherland, Marquis of

Stafford. Impressive site overlooking sea.
