Description

Mid 18th century, with additions and alterations
throughout 19th century, rambling mansion. All harled
with ashlar margins. Centre mid 18th century house of 2
storeys and attic, 4 unequal bays with off-centre (south)
projecting bowed porch, side entrance, front window and
bowed piended roof; 3 piended dormers. Flanking wings,
forming centre court, set back from house and joined by
passage blocks, each wing single storey and attic, 2 bays.
Large 2-storey and attic extension to north and east,
with NE 3-storey angle drum tower with conical roof and
tall weather-vane.
Further corniced entrance in east face with corniced
multi-light window to right. Mainly 12-pane glazing;
corniced ridge and end stacks; slate roofs.
Gate piers; south of original house, 2 pairs square
ashlar gate piers with ball finials; centre pair
cast-iron carriage gates and flanking matching pedestrian
gates. Low coped rubble wall with matching terminal piers
linked by plain cast-iron railing.

Statement of Interest

Formerly home of James Loch, Commissioner to Sutherland

and Stafford Estates, 1816-1855.

His memorial (see following item) in grounds.

Uppat purchased by Sutherland Estates in 1812.
