Earlier 19th century. Former bacon processing plant. Long
rectangular gabled range, 2 storeys, 7-bay long elevations. Rubble-built, with ashlar dressings; all whitewashed;
openings all flat-headed; square 1st floor windows; windows
mostly barred and with original sliding timber shutters
fitted to inner walls: lean-to added to W gable. S elevation
(to roadside) and central cartway with boarded doors, further
cartway at left with sliding door, 1st floor door above with
hoist over. N elevation has 2 blocked ground floor slits,
otherwise, windows throughout. Roofed with gabled slates.
Footings of adjoining concrete structure at E.
Interior has tiers of wall recesses to accommodate timber
meat-hanging frames; some framing survives at E. Ground floor
shutters slide horizontally, 1st floor shutters slide upwards
to open.
The high local potato yield of the late 18th century was used
to fatten pigs, which were exported as bacon.
