Description

Late 18th/early 19th century farmhouse in part built with

re-used stonework and buckle-quoins from old Newbie House,

the latter built or enlarged 1657 (datestone), possibly by

John Mylne, King's master mason. Courtyard steading to N. All whitewashed rubble with ashlar dressings. Roofs mainly

slated.

House: S-facing, and altered and closing courtyard at S. 2

storeys, 5 (2+3) bays, 2 left bays an addition, 3-bay main

range with re-used buckle-quoins at front angles reaching to

height of about 7'; central gabled porch perhaps mid 19th

century, ground floor bipartite either side probably late

19th century. End stacks. Roof swept to courtyard over

full-length lean-to; broken roll-moulded stone re-used as

window lintel.

Whalebone arch to S, at garden.

Steading: pend in range adjoining house W gable, and

forestair; tall ranges at W and at E, the latter with almost

blank wall to roadside and with modern corrugated roof.

Ranges at N with one angle chamfered and with rooflight

ventilators.
