House. Probably C17 with later alterations. Sandstone rubble plinth
and timber-frame with plaster infill, mainly covered in render. Slate
roof and brick stack. Rectangular four-bay plan aligned north-north-west/
south-south-east. Two storeys. West elevation to road has rendered finish
and two windows on first floor, a 3-light mid-C20 casement to the left and
a 4-pane window to the right. Ground floor has three windows, all mid-C20
with segmental heads and glazing bars. South gable is also rendered. One
window and glazed C20 door to centre. East elevation has exposed timber-
framing, four square panels high from cill to wall-plate. Angle struts
to each corner post from cill beam. Interior has fireplace with a pair of
C12 colonnettes and capitals enriched with palmettes. Roof space has fire-
place with chamfered stone jambs stopped to pyramids. South trusses have
three struts from ties to collars above which are V-struts. North end has
queen posts and tie partly covered in plaster decorated with early C17 painted
foliated circular designs. Several beams have lamb's tongue run-out chamfer
stops. The C12 colonnettes are possibly from Wigmore Abbey. (RCHM, Vol III,
