House, now a shop and house. C17 or earlier, C18 brick front to No. 44,
early/mid C19 brick front, shopfront, and gabled rear wing to No. 46.
Timber frame exposed only at rear, red brick in Flemish-bond to No. 44,
plum brick in Flemish-bond to No. 46. Steep old red tile roofs. A former
3-cells 2-storeys house facing E with large internal chimney a third
from S end. C18 external N gable chimney serving only ground floor.
2-storeys gabled SW rear wing has an internal W gable chimney. E front
in 2 parts: earlier N 2/3 (No.44/44A) is symmetrical with 2 windows to
each floor and recess over door in middle. Flush box sashes with 2/2
panes replacement sashes, flat gauged arches to ground floor windows,
6-panels door (bottom 2 flush beaded: middle 2 moulded: top 2 glazed) in
a heavy moulded surround, with entablature, fluted trygliph frieze,
moulded flat hood, and cast-iron boot-scraper beside door. S part
(No.46) narrower with brick eaves cornice and single recessed sash
window with 8/8 panes and stone lintel on 1st floor over neat shopfront
with pilasters, fascia, dentilled cornice, half-glazed door in LH panel,
fret to head of window, and stucco stall-riser. Catslide rear outshut to
N part interrupted by 2-storeys low parallel roofed rear block..
