House and adjoining inn, now 4 houses. C17 or earlier, C18 brick fronts
and parallel rear ranges, C19 shopfront to No. 61. Timber frame, red
brick casing to Nos. 59, 61, 63 and similar rear ranges. No. 65
chequered red and grey brick. Steep old red tile roofs, rear ranges
hipped. Nos. 59-63 have uniform fronts with wide carriageway through N
end of block. 2-storeys, facing W. 2-light small pane Yorkshire sliding
casement to 1st floor fine gauged eliptical wide red brick arch with
keystone and impost blocks to carriageway. Sash windows generally with
4/8 panes to 1st floor and 8/8 panes to ground floor. Eaves cornice to
front. Small neat shop window to No. 61 with pilasters and entablature.
Small pointed door hoods and plank door to No. 59, 6-panels fielded door
to No. 61, and panelled half-glazed door to No. 63. Exposed in
carriageway heavy flat joists on heavy axial beam, and fully framed
partition on S side. S gable of No. 63 has timbers exposed of a collar
truss and clasped-purlin roof. No. 65, the Plough Inn up to c.1918, is
of 2 storeys, 3 windows wide, with central door. 2-light casement
windows with cambered arches to ground floor. Battened door with broad
reeded surround mitred at the corners and with a projecting cornice.
Interior has C17 staircase and panelling. (Coote (1977)24).
