House and cottage. Dated 1728 and 1604. Coursed squared gritstone,
graduated stone slate roof. 2-storey, 2-bay house to left, lower 2-storey
narrow 2-bay cottage to right. Quoins. Grange farmhouse (left): slightly
off-centre half-glazed 4-panel door in eared architrave with cornice and
" M 1728"
keystone inscribed: I M . 2-light, formerly 4-light, recessed
chamfered window with flat-faced mullion to left, similar but larger window
to right, with hoodmould. Two 4-light recessed chamfered mullion windows to
first floor - with flat-faced mullions to left, chamfered mullions to right.
Shaped kneelers, gable copings, end stacks: that to left rendered, to right
corniced. Left return: base of a large external stack. Fairfax Cottage
(right): half-glazed C20 door in a wide doorway with double cavetto moulding
and a hoodmould with plaque over inscribed "IM 1604". The hoodmould
continues over a former 4-light recessed chamfered mullion window to right,
the mullions removed. A recessed chamfered window with 2 round-headed
lights and retooled lintel first floor left; former 3-light recessed
chamfered window to right. Shaped kneeler and gable coping, corniced ridge
stack to right. Interior not inspected at resurvey.
