Pair of cottages. Dated H de R 1876 on plaque. Red brick, half-
timbered jettied gables with whitewashed roughcast infill. Hipped
tile roof with some fishscale patterning, original large central
brick chimney with pilasters. 2 storeys, 2 asymmetrical bays. Left
bay has canted bay window to ground floor and jettied gabled first
floor with altered C20 casement. Porch to left has C20 single light
to front and entry to side. Right bay has cross casement with segmental
head to ground floor and C20 eaves-breaking casement above. Whitewashed
terracotta date plaque with flanking herringbone panels below upper
left-hand window. C20 extensions to rear. One of a group of picturesque
estate cottages built for Hannah de Rothschild in style influenced by
nearby work of George Devey at Ascott.
