SP 81 NE WINGRAVE WITH ROWSHAM MOAT LANE

8/137 Hillview

GV II

House, probably once 2 cottages. Circa 1876, date plaque defaced.
Red brick, half-timbering to upper left bay with ornamental tile
hanging to top of gable and first floor of right bay. Tiled roof,
hipped to left, half-hipped to right, with some fishscale patterning,
rebuilt brick chimneys.2 storeys, 2 asymmetrical bays. Left bay is
gabled and projecting, the first floor jettied with a coved overhang.
3-light barred wooden casements, that to first floor in oriel window
with coved base. Chimney and C20 rendered single storey extension to
left. C20 door in right return wall. Right bay has chimney to left
and no windows. Part of a group of picturesque estate cottages, built
around The Green, now Recreation Ground, for Hannah de Rothschild, in
style influenced by nearby work of George Devey at Ascott.
