House and cottage, originally 3 cottages. Dated H de R 1876
on plaques, extended c.1970-80. Ground floor is of red brick, first
floor has half-timbering, part coloured, with whitewashed roughcast
infill. Hipped tile roof with some fishscale patterning, rebuilt
brick chimneys. 2 storeys, the upper jettied on brackets, with
moulded bressumer. 3 original bays, the outer bays slightly
projecting and gabled with canted bay windows to ground floor and
3-light casements to first floor. Centre bay has 3-light transomed
casement to left of half-glazed door, both with cambered heads, and
4-light casement above, the top breaking slightly into the eaves.
Flanking porches with single lights to front. Left porch has entry
altered to casement. Right porch altered to link with C20 matching
gabled extension. Part of a picturesque group of estate cottages
built around The Green, now Recreation Ground, for Hannah de
Rothschild in style influenced by nearby work of George Devey at
Ascott.
