Canal tunnel entrance arch: 1777 by James Brindley for the Trent and
Mersey Canal Co. Stone dressed washed brick. Curving facade has a
parabolic stone entrance arch at its centre. Plain band at ground
level carries plain parapet with rounded stone coping. Arch ends in
stone pilasters. At the centre of the bridge is a stone plaque
reading BARNTON TUNNEL in C20 script.
