Canal tunnel entrance arch: 1777 by James Brindley for the Trent and
Mersey Canal Co. Partly washed English garden wall bond blue brick
with red sandstone dressings. Curving facade has a parabolic stone
arch at its centre. Plain band at ground level has plain parapet with
a rounded stone coping. Bridge ends in stone and brick pilasters.
