Pair of estate workers' cottages. 1st ΒΌ C19, probably by Peter Atkinson (York),
for Edward Lascelles 1st Earl of Harewood, altered mid-C20. Hammer-dressed stone,
stone slate roof. 6 1st-floor windows, 3 being insertions. Paired doorways
formerly windows, with 2 windows either side, the central windows formerly the
doorways. On 1st floor No 56 has original central window flanked by inserted
windows, and No 55 has original outer windows with inserted central window. Gable
stacks, that to right in ashlar.
