Large detached house. Possibly late C16, enlarged in 2 stages to
rear probably in C18. Rubble stone, partly roughcast faced to
rear, stone slate roof, scattered stone stacks, including large
stepped formerly external stack to rear of left hand cross gable,
now attached to later wing. Original front range of 2 storeys and
attic with 2 cross gables and probably originally a through passage
to stair turret on rear of central gable, with later rear wing to
left of 2 storeys and attic and second addition forming U-shape
range, of 2 storeys. Three steep front gables each with 2-light
stone mullion in apex and 3-light below with relieving arches, left
hand window slightly longer. Ground floor has 2 long 2-light to
left with remains of relieving arch, 4-light to right with arch,
and 3-light with arch in centre with flat arched doorway
immediately to right with ovolo moulded and stopped surround, large
flush lintel and square hoodmould, and half-glazed door probably of
C19. All windows hollow moulded with leaded casements and square
hoodmoulds. Right hand return has small single light on first
floor probably for newel stair, C20 lean-to extension below. Left
hand return has similar stone fenestration to front, one window
bay. C18 extension to left has single gabled dormer through eaves
on left hand return and C20 fenestration below. Later extension
also has some stone fenestration.
