II
Detached country house. Possibly C16 origins, main range added
late C18/early C19 probably for Thomas White, member of a Tetbury
family of mercers. Rendered front range on plinth on rubble stone
rear, mostly stone slate roof except for slate to front of half-
hipped main range with moulded cornice and parapet to front. Main
front range of 2 tall storeys with 2 lower rear ranges, forming L-
shape. Central pediment over slightly projecting 3 bays, with 2
bays to each side, all with 12-pane sashes and sill band, in plain
reveals. Central Roman Doric stone portico with flat entablature
and half-glazed door to rear. Left hand return has 2 Palladian
windows on first floor in raised plain stone surrounds with
tripartite sashes. Rear wings have irregularly spaced sashes to
left, and 4 and 5-light stone mullions with square hoodmould to
right. Complete external inspection not possible at time of survey
(April 1986) nor inspection of interior which may have had a Tudor
hall with carved stone fireplace, and is reputed to have stone
staircase with swept handrail and wrought iron balustrade and C18
marble fireplace surround to south west drawing room.
