House. C17 with later C18 and early to mid C19 extensions to the right.
Coursed rubble, hammer-dressed stone to C19 house, stone slate roofs.
2 storeys. Quoins. Forms a long range with 4 different roof lines.
C17 single-cell, to left, has 3-light double-chamfered mullioned window,
same above (lacks mullions). Coped gable to left with stack. C18
addition to right, of 2 cells with one bay of windows with 4-paned
sashes and plain stone surrounds to left of doorway with monolithic
jambs. Gutter brackets. Coped gable to left with kneelers. Central
facade: doorway with monolithic jambs has open porch with flat hood
supported by Doric columns. To either side windows with raised plain
stone surrounds and projecting sills. Gutter brackets. Coped gables
with kneelers and stacks. Attached to right, single C19-cell has one
bay of windows with margin punch-dressed surrounds. Gutter brackets.
Coped gable with kneelers to right. Rear of C19 house has 3 bays.
1st bay has 3-light double-chamfered mullioned window. Central stairwindow
and doorway with monolithic jamb. Other windows have plain stone surrounds.
Shows an interesting development. The porch was originally the porch
to Church of St. James (q.v.) and was brought to its present site after
the alterations of 1877.
