House and attached barn. House initialled and dated " HFA "
1719
(Flesher family), barn added early C18 but incorporating earlier,
possibly C17, doorways. Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. 2
storeys. 2-cell direct-entry plan with dairy and stair to rear of
housebody. Quoins, plinth. 2 bays of double-chamfered mullioned
windows with almost square reveals. 4-light to ground floor with
king-mullion (lacks 2 mullions) with 3-light window above. Doorway
to right hand end has tie-stone jambs and lintel with carved date
inscription set within a shield, chamfered surround. Central ridge
stack. Rear has 3 mullioned windows to ground floor. 4-light double-
chamfered mullioned window, possibly C17 and re-used; 2-light stair-
window; 3-light window with 2-light over to 1st floor. Attached to
right return is single-storey dairy with tall gable stack. Barn to
left hand end has segmental-arched cart-entry with skewbacks and
punch-dressed voussoirs. Quoined angle to inner door entry set within
a porch. Doorways set within the re-entrant angle have chamfered jambs
to stables either side. Similar doorway to mistal at left at lower
level. Coped gable to left with kneelers. Rear has opposing doorway
with chamfered surround of C17 character.
Interior: Housebody has segmental-arched fireplace with false joggled
voussoirs and chamfered surround with chamfered doorway to right.
Parlour, full depth of house, has fireplace with monolithic lintel and
stop-chamfered surround. Both rooms have stop-chamfered spine beams
and C17 and re-used, chamfered joists. Chambers have remains of original
oak-panelled wardrobes.
