Former Blowing Engine House, now study centre (since 1908). 1849.
Coursed and dressed rubblestone with battered front and back walls,
hipped slate roof, one twin stone stack in south west corner,
overhanging eaves. 4 storeys with central 3-storey "porch"
projection. 3 windows, including porch - twin wooden casements
including 2 mullions above forming ventilator. "Porch" supported
on 2 Tuscan columns with wooden frieze and cornice, slate hung
above with hipped slate roof also with overhanging eaves. Single
large rectangular range with lower extensions to left and rear,
later with hipped slate roof and large semi-circuLar window on
south side. The extensive furnaces at Parkend were originally
blown by bellows powered by a waterwheel 51' in diameter and a 90hp
steam engine was added in 1849 as supplementary power.
