Lodge to Audley End Park. Early C19. Flint cobble with red
brick dressings in `Tudor' style, clay tiled roof. L-shaped
plan of 2 parallel blocks of differing length with gable ends
flush at N front. 2 storeys.
N front elevation: 2 symmetrical gables with parapets, finials
(one now missing) and kneelers. Single ground and first floor
window to each unit in house style with chamfered brick
surrounds, double casements with hollow chamfered frame and
central stile, cast-iron diamond lattice casements. Central
ground floor projecting red brick gabled porch with angle
buttresses. Interior door has 4-centred arched overlight with
radiating glazing bars, 2-leaf flush panelled door. W garden
elevation: long wall of larger of 2 blocks, 3 window range,
large stack with 6 diagonally set shafts at roof apex between
windows N of centre. Big external stack at S end gable with 3
diagonal shafts, parapet with moulded terracotta cornice and
kneelers at each end. Most windows in house style but ground
floor N end window is a 3-cant bay with parapet, moulded
coping and cornice and windows in house style, 1:2:1 lights. S
of centre, doorway with label and brick dressings, now has C20
2-leafed door each with long central glazed panel.
S end elevation: gable of long range (to W) with massive red
brick external stack shouldered up to 3 diagonal shafts. To E,
lesser block with gable end set back, first floor window in
house style, below, timber and brick C20 lean-to with red clay
tiled roof and door with upper glazing, 2x3 panes. Large
adjacent 2-light window on dwarf brick wall. Inner N face of
larger block has similar lean-to with similar door in S end
wall. E side elevation: short N block joined to boundary wall
(qv) with window in house style but now with double casement
with glazing bars, in all 4x2 panes. Above, moulded cornice
with twin diagonal shafted stack through roof pitch. To S,
larger parallel block set back forming yard with boundary
wall. 2 first floor window in house style. C20 lean-to below.
