Terrace of 8 houses. c1788. Stucco with brick and limestone
dressings, party wall stacks and pantile roofs, mansard to Nos
26-30, hipped double-pile to Nos 16-24. Double-depth plan. Mid
Georgian style.
Built in 2 sections as the roofs suggest; cornices, on small
brackets at the party walls, are ramped from Nos 24-30, and
alternate-sided doorways have brick semicircular arches with
stepped keys and alternate stone blocks to architraves (an
unusual feature), 4-pane fanlights and 6-panel doors. 2-storey
canted bays, 3 storeys on Nos 16 & 26-30, have a second-floor
sill band, with 6/6-pane flanked by 4/4-pane sashes in exposed
frames, and 6/6-pane second-floor sashes.
INTERIOR: No.16, entrance hall divided by a semicircular arch
on fluted pilasters, a dogleg stair to the side with stick
balusters, column newels and a ramped rail; first-floor front
room has panelled wainscot and a good cast-iron fireplace with
a plain surround, and 4-panel doors.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached wrought-iron railings between
bays; Nos 26-30 have winder steps up to a common area, with a
lamp basket to Nos 26 & 28.
