Chancel east window, five lights with stained glass roundels or shields for Mary Hastings 1597 who married Philip Copley c1545.
(1st light) Shield 1) Labelled Huntingdon, and within a garter belt 1: Grandquarterly i, Argent a maunch sable (Hastings). ii, Per pale indented gules and azure a chevron or (Heytridge), iii, Sable three bars and in chief three plates (Hungerford). iv, Barry of six ermine and gules (Beaumont). 2, Azure three garbs argent a chief or (Peverell), 3, Argent three toads erect sable (Botreaux). 4, Argent a griffin sergeant gules (Botreaux of Cornwall). 5, Paly wavy of six or and gules (Moleyns). 6, Argent two bars gules in chief three torteaux (Moels). 7, Or three roundels gules a label of three points azure (Courtenay).
Shield 2) Labelled Stafford and de Buckingham: A shield beneath an earls coronet. Per fess: Quarterly France and England (Plantagenet ) and Or a chevron gules (Stafford). Impaling Per fess Azure a bend argent cottised or, between six lions rampant of the third, (Bohun Earl of Hereford) and Azure on a bend argent cottised or, between six lions rampant of the third, three mullets gules (Bohun).
Shield 3) Labelled Richard Plantagenet. Too confused to make out
(2nd light) Shield 1) Above a garter belt, mantling argent and azure. Out of a coronet a bulls head erased proper upon its neck a mullet or. (Earl of Huntingdon). Within the belt a shield Quarterly of seven 1, Per pale azure and gules three lions rampant argent (Herbert, Earl of Pembroke and Huntingdon). 2i, Sable a chevron between three spear head argent ( ) impaling 2ii, Argent three foxes or Griffins statant or. ( ) 3, Medieval painted glass not resolved. 4, Untinted, semee of fleurs de lis a fishes head couped ( ). 5, Gules two bars invecked argent a canton and a crescent or ( ). Gules three garbs or ( ).
Shield 2) Labelled Mary. As Huntingdon above but without the garter but a border with painted portrait medallions instead.
(3rd light) Shield 1) Medieval glass roundel with a shield of arms painted with crests and a shield: Gules a masonry tower with three pennons argent. In base a Talbot of the second. Impaling Sable a lion rampant or within a bordure argent ( ).
Shield 2), Under a Marquess’s crown a garter belt within which Huntingdon as before.
(4th light) Shield 1) Within a garter belt Huntingdon as before.
Shield 2) Labelled Philip and Mary. For Philip Copley and Mary Hastings. A shield within a border containing portrait medallions. Quarterly of eight: 1, Argent on a bend azure three bucks heads cabossed or ( ) . 2, Or on a chief dancetty azure three plates ( ). 3, Gules a device argent ( ). 4, Chequy azure and or ( ). 5, Gules two lions passant in pale argent (Strange). 6, Argent a fess and canton combined gules (?Woodville or Badlesmere). 7, Or a cross engrailed sable? ( ). Argent ? an eagle displayed argent ( ). Impaling Huntingdon as above.
(5th light) Shield 1) Labelled Richard II. Within a garter belt, a shield with Spain impaling England, viz: Quarterly, 1st and 4th:, Castile and León, 3rd, quarterly: Mortimer and de Burgh, overall an inescutcheon of Holland, Earl of Kent. (2nd) Within a garter and labelled Richard II : Spain: Quarterly 1 and 4 : Grand quarterly 1 and 4 Gules a tower or (Castile) 2 and 3 Argent a lion rampant gules (Leon) 2 and 3 Or four palets gules (Aragon) impaling Sicily: Per saltire 1 and 4 Aragon 2 and 3 Argent an eagle dsplayed sable (Hohenstaufen). 5 Gules a fess argent (Austria). 6 Azure semee de lis or a bordure compony argent and gules (Burgundy modern). 7 Azure two bends or within a bordure gules (Burgundy ancient). 8 Sable a lion rampant or (Brabant). Lower inescutcheon Or a lion rampant sable (Flanders) impaling argent an eagle displayed gules (Tyrol). Entee en point A pomegranate slipped proper (Granada). Impaling France quartering England.
Shield 2) A shield within a border containing portrait medallions and a cross bottonnee on top, labelled Cardinal Pole: Quarterly of eight 1, Quarterly France and England a label of three points argent (George Plantagenet Duke of Clarence). 2, Per pale or and sable a saltire engrailed counterchanged (Pole). 3, Gules a saltire argent a label of three points or (Nevill) 4, Gules a fess between six crosses crosslet or (Beauchamp), 5, Chequy or and azure a chevron ermine (Newburgh) 6, Argent three lozenges in fess conjoined (Montacute). 7, Or an eagle displayed vert (Monthermer). 8, Quarterly 1 and 4 Gules three chevrons or (Clare) 2 and 3 Grandquarterly Argent and gules in 2 and 3 a fret or over all a bend sable (DeSpencer).
