An alabaster chest tomb in the south chapel is to Francis, 2nd Earl of Huntingdon (d 1561) and his wife. Two alabaster effigies are on a tomb chest with shields and weepers. The monument was repainted in 1698 by the 6th Earl when it was placed against the wall beneath a mural monument with armorial bearings, this arrangement being suited to the style of the times. It was moved back to the centre of the chapel after 1837. Inscription: Here lyeth the corps of Francys late erle Huntingdon Lorde Hastynges, Hungerford Botreaux (Molyns lord Moyles) (damaged) Knight of the Honorable/ (Order of the Garter, whiche deceased the xxth (20th) daye of June Anno Domini 1561. And of the lady Katharine, countess of Huntingdon his wife, whiche deceased the xxiiid (23rd) day of September Anno Domini 1576).
The bearded effigy of Sir Francis is in armour, with a garter cape and an earls coronet. His feet rest on a manticore (tiger with mans face). His wife was Katherine, daughter of Henry Pole Lord Montacute. (Photo Aug 2015).
