West window of 1866. Adam and Eve, dressed in skins, are driven from the Garden of Eden. St Mary with the infant Jesus in her lap. -For as in Adam all die; even so in Christ shall all be made alive (1 Corinthians 15.22)-. The highlights have leached out of the picture, a common problem with factory- produced English glass of this date. Alkali oxides, added to make the glass easily workable for the window makers, are attacked by acid rain. The problem was solved when members of the Arts and Crafts Movement researched the medieval craftsmens methods. (Photo Apr 2008).
