3/130 Bainbridge House
GV II
House, possibly early C17th, of 2 builds. Sandstone rubble with slate
roof. 2 storeys. The earlier part, at the left, is of 2 bays having
rebated and chamfered windows. Those on the ground floor have hood moulds:
the left-hand one has mullions remaining and is of 3 lights; the
right-hand one has been enlarged and has one flat-faced mullion. At the
right is a fire window with plain reveals. On the 1st floor the windows,
formerly of 2 lights, have no mullions remaining. A dog-leg in the
straight joint suggests that the right-hand addition had its eaves raised
before the left-hand part of the front wall was raised. The addition has,
on the ground floor, the remains of a 3-light rebated and chamfered
mullioned window, now with a larger modern window inserted. To its right,
and under the same hood, is a blocked one-light fire window. On the 1st
floor is a sashed window with plain reveals. To its right, at a lower
level, is a blocked one-light window. Chimneys between main house and
addition, and on right-hand gable wall, the latter with a projecting
stack. Interior not accessible at time of survey, but middle room appears
to have a cyma-moulded stone fireplace of Cl8th type.
