Description

IREBY

5/133 Ireby Hall Farmhouse

II

House, probably early C17th, altered. Sandstone rubble with steep slate
roof. 2 storeys. Front of 3 bays having modern windows with plain reveals.
Re-set over the left-hand ground-floor window is a battlemented lintel
inscribed '1641'. The door, in the middle bay and under a modern glazed
porch, has a chamfered surround with Tudor-arched head. At the left is a
second door under a glazed porch which overlaps one bay of a taller
addition, probably of early C19th date, which has windows with plain stone
surrounds and glazing bars. Further left is a 2nd bay of this addition,
projecting forwards under hipped roof, with chamfered quoins, and having
sashed windows with plain stone surrounds. Chimney on ridge above this
bay, to its right, to left of middle bay of original house, and on
right-hand gable. Inside, the left-hand room has a very wide fireplace
with rendered segmental arch. 2 large main joists with mouldings of C16th
type intersect. The mouldings have run-out stops, which suggests that they
are not re-used. On the 1st floor there is panelling with vertical panels
and with moulded muntins and rails.
