GV II
House, originally a farmhouse. Circa late C17, remodelled circa mid C18.
Pebbledashed front, otherwise painted rubble. Grouted scantle slate at front of
roof, corrugated asbestos at rear sweeping lower over C18 outshut. Brick chimneys
over the gable ends. Cast-iron ogee gutters.
Plan: double depth plan: parlour left, larger hall/kitchen, right, passage between
leading to central stair at rear between 2 shallow service rooms all within the
outshut.
Exterior : 2 storeys. 3 window south front with doorway central to symmetrical
fenestration all grouped towards the left. C20 ledged door and 4-pane horned sashes.
Interior : largely unaltered since the C18 with most carpentry and joinery of that
date: 2-panel doors, ovolo-moulded beams, muntin and plank partitions and pegged roof
structure. In the slate-flagged kitchen is a large original fireplace with chamfered
and stopped oak lintel and large oven with corbelled domed roof, partly rebuilt at
the front to make semi-circular niche, probably in the C18. Leading from the right
hand chamber to the rear outshut is a probably resited original circa late C17 2-
panel door with wide muntins and rails.
