SJ 55 NW PECKFORTON PECKFORTON HALL LANE
1/15 Farm building south-east
of Peckforton Hall
GV II
Barn, late C17, stone, brickwork and oak boarded timber framing with
slate roof. 2 Storeys, 4 bays. Stone to first floor level with Oak
boarded timber framing above this to eaves level on north side and
east end. Brickwork replaces the timbers on the west side of the
building. There are internally splayed "arrow slit" openings in the
lower part of the stone wall. The studs in the timber framing are
close spaced for an agricultural building. Some original heavy floor
beams. The trusses have high collars with four posts rising from the
tie beam and there are braces from the timber frame to the underside
of the tie beams. Old ridge tree and purlins.
A more recent brick continuation of the barn, at the east end is of no
interest.
