Description

SD 94 SE COWLING COWLING HILL LANE
5/41
Former inn building,
now outbuilding to
Stott Fold Farm
GV
II

Fragment reputed to have been an inn, probably early C17. Rubble and large dressed
stone blocks. Two cart entries. At the north side one deeply recessed double
chamfered stone mullion window of 2-lights.
Listed as a survival of the period when Cowling Hill was the main settlement of the
parish situated at the crossing of the roads north from Halifax and west from
Skipton. A barn at Stott Fold Farm (not included in the item) bears the early date of
1616 on a lintel said to have come from this building. (A wood, ed Cowling: A
Moorland Parish, 1980).
