House. Late medieval, altered in C17 and C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed
with handmade red clay tiles. 3-bay main range facing SE, and 2-bay crosswing
at left end. Axial stack at the junction, and C19 external stack at left side
of crosswing. Single-storey lean-to extensions in rear angle and at right end.
2-storey gabled porch in front angle. 2 storeys and attic. Ground floor, one
early C19 sash of 16 lights, 2 late C19 sashes of 4 lights. First floor, 4 late
C19 sashes of 4 lights. C19 casement in gable of attic. C19 half-glazed door.
The interior has lodged plain joists of horizontal section arranged longitud-
inally in the right bay, probably the original parlour/solar bay, a C17 inserted
floor with axial beam and exposed joists of vertical section in the hall, but
otherwise is fully plastered on the ground floor. On the first floor of the
crosswing there are jowled posts, some exposed studding, and a cambered tiebeam
with arched braces. Roofs wholly rebuilt in C19/C20. The house has retained
the original medieval 3-part plan, with a stack inserted in the left bay of the
hall, but the internal and external plaster conceals the frame of the hall
range, so that it is not clear whether the walls of the hall have been raised in
the C17, or wholly rebuilt. The front and back doors are still in tile original
positions.
