House, C16 in two stages. Two blocks at right angles, placed corner-to-corner
with a narrow link. The long range is of early C16, and the eastern block
c.1550. 2 storeys, the eastern block with attics. Timber-framed and
plastered. Plaintiled roofs, the lower range hipped. A C16 end chimney and
an axial chimney with rebuilt C19 shaft, both of red brick. The east block
has a late C18 facade on the north side: 2 storeys, 3 windows. Small-pane
sashes of original form but renewed in mid C20. Entrance doorway: 6-panelled
door with fielded panels, semi-circular fanlight with intersecting bars; open
pediment with console brackets. The earlier phase has heavy framing: the
south gable is end-jettied; this is now internal. Tension-braced close-
studding with blocked diamond-mullioned windows. Massive floor joists,
chamfered in main room only. Roof rebuilt in C18. The east block is of 2-
cell end-chimney form and with high quality framing. Very closely spaced
studding with several blocked windows with rib-moulded mullions. Joists are
roll-moulded and main beams have double roll with leaf stops. Wind-braced
clasped purlin roof. Some C17 panelling.
