'Mary Room' in the Palace Block

Uploader's Comments

Part of the room where Queen Mary gave birth to the future James VI and I in 1566. During his only return visit to Scotland in 1617 (after the 1603 Union of the Crowns), James ordered that the room be preserved and much of what is now seen is decoration dating from his reign. This room and the nearby Crown Chamber were the first parts of the Castle to be opened to the general public in the early 19th century.
