Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay house forming part of terrace. Painted render. Eaves course; cornice; blocking course; strip quoin to right only. Painted margins to openings.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central block-pedimented, corniced doorpiece with triglyph frieze; 2-leaf timber door; letterbox fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor; flanking single windows at ground and 1st floors. 2 piended dormers to outer right and left at attic.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; rooflight; coped stacks; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Nos 1-29 (Inclusive Nos, no No 13 and 30 and 54 Fullarton Street) form B Group. The N side of Barns Street formed Ayr's first regular terrace development (Dodd, p358). Rear alterations by James A Morris & J K Hunter, 1894 (information courtesy of Robert Close).
