Description

18th century with later alterations and additions. Single storey and attic, 4-bay asymmetrical rectangular-plan house with crowstepped gable to street and pitched-roofed dormers, built on ground rising slightly to S. Harled.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: flat-roofed part-glazed entrance porch at ground in bay to right of centre; modern door in left return; dormer window above. Window at ground in bay to outer right. Part-glazed door at ground in bay to left of centre. Window at each floor in bay to outer left.

N (WELLINGTON STREET) ELEVATION: 2-bay: window at each floor in bay to left. Window at ground in bay to right; gablehead stack above.

E AND S ELEVATIONS: blank.

Replacement uPVC windows; rooflights to E pitch. Grey slate roof; stone ridge; harled, corniced stack to N; similar cement rendered stack to S; uPVC rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1998.

Statement of Interest

Much altered at the ground floor, the house is of interest for its traditional scale and orientation of the gable to the street, and Orcadian details such as the deep-set openings, broad chimney stacks and crowstepped gables.
