Description

18th century with later alterations. 2-storey, 2-bay rectangular-plan small terrace with gable end to street (N), comprising 2-bay house (Number 20) to street, abutting slightly higher 2-bay house with crowstepped gable to S (Number 18); narrow close running along E side. Harled. Cement margins to ground floor openings to Number 20.

N (WELLINGTON STREET) ELEVATION: window at each floor; gablehead stack above.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: Number 20 to right: deep-set door in bay to centre. Window in bay to left. Number 18: part-glazed door in bay to left of centre. Non-aligned window in bay to right.

S ELEVATION: enlarged window at ground in bay to left of centre; window at 1st floor above. Window at 1st floor in bay to right.

Variety of glazing patterns, including 14-pane timber sash and case windows to Number 20; predominantly timber-framed windows with top hung upper lights elsewhere. Modern grey slate roof; stone ridge; harled, corniced gablehead stack to N; thack-stane; similar stack to E pitch of Number 18; uPVC rainwater goods.

Statement of Interest

These houses retain their original layout, traditionally situated with the gable end to the street. Number 18 retains a crowstepped gable.
