Description

David MacKenzie, circa 1840. 2-storey 3-bay picturesque renaissance galbed villa, apparently unfinished, 2-storey 3-bay rubble-built with ashlar dressings, chamfered openings, and harled sides.

S ELEVATION* 3-bay, centre corbelled doorpiece with segmental arched window and small bargeboarded gablet over. Corniced canted bay through both floor to left with shallow bargeboarded gable over. Bipartite bay to right advanced, ground floor hoodmoulded, 1st floor corbelled out on curvilinear corbels (suggesting that a taller tower was intended). Shallow gable without eaves or bargeboards. Finial (ball missing). SIDES: harled with advanced gabled centres and segmental-arched 1st floor lights. Finials without balls. Flat-roofed extension to surgery added to right circa 1980.

Slate roofs, Octagonal shafted stacks. Windows sash and case, 2 and 4-pane glazing patterns.

Low boundary walls to Dudhope Street with square ashlar pyramid-capped gatepiers. Railings missing. Higher walls to Laurel Bank.
