Description

Later 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay corner-site house. Painted ashlar. Base course; eaves course; cornice; blocking course; architraves and cill blocks to window openings; cornices to ground floor windows.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: cavetto-splayed arched doorpiece to outer left; decorative consoled cornice; steps to recessed timber door; fanlight; single window aligned above at 1st floor. Regular fenestration to bays to right. Single off-centre canted dormer at attic.

4-pane timber sash and case windows (stained glass to lower panes of 1st floor window to outer left). Grey slate roof; stone skews; corniced gablehead stacks; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Charlotte Street was laid out to the South side of the Citadel parallel with the North side of Wellington Square, its South side sharing a back lane (Mews Lane). The building stands to the right of Nos 3-15 (Odd Nos) and provides an interesting example of Victorian building, with Nos 3-15 (Odd Nos) being of early 19th century origin.
