W T Oldrieve, 1904-8. Barrel-vaulted large subterranean
chamber below turf-clad mound with 2 lesser chambers contained
within, both encircled by corridors. Mountings for early instrumentation; cork-lined interior walls.
South-facing entrance at tunnel mouth is treated similarly to
main buildings; whinstone-faced with contrasting dressings,
arched window, door now behind small brick-built porch.
Constructed to measure variation of North and to monitor
movements within the earth's core.
