Description

W T Oldrieve. Dated 1908. 2-storey villa-type observatory

residences. Arts and Crafts movement, with complex (slate) roofs,

some battered walls, gabled bays with skews run horizontally

above angles. Roughly-coursed and squared whinstone with

contrasting long and short dressings and segmental window arches

with contrasting voussoirs. 3-bay elevations, except at rear. Symmetrical S entrance front with canted flat-roofed porch,

window above, taller outer bays. Sash windows, mainly with

12-pane glazing. Coped stacks. North-facing 2-light stone-built

dormer, louvred apices of main roofs rise above.

Outbuildings (to N) principally 2 detached blocks in similar

style;

BLOCK NEAREST E: single storey; west-facing with coach-house in

gabled right bay with loft door above, dovecote below eaves on S

return.

BLOCK NEAREST N: plainer, 2 storeys with square-headed 1st floor windows; converted for residential use, with modern glazing.
