Description

W T Oldrieve. Dated 1908. Asymmetrical 2-storey large villa-type observatory residence, probably conceived as 2 houses. Arts

and Crafts movement with complex roof plan, gabled bays with

gables raised above main eaves level, skews run horizontally

above angles. Roughly-coursed and squared whinstone with

contrasting long and short dressings and arches to most openings.

Mainly sash windows with 12-pane glazing pattern. SE elevation

has 3 unequal gabled bays, that to left more massive, with

clasping angle strips and battered canted ground floor window;

main roof swept down at right over porch. 3-bay SW elevation,

the left gabled and with lead-roofed projecting ground floor

linked to entrance bay (door in re-entrant angle), semi-circular

window at ground, 3-light window below eaves; shaped gutter

brackets; coped and battered stacks; slate roofs.
