Indistinct datestone, apparently 1806 or 1808. 2-storey 3-bay
farmhouse with detached courtyard steading to N with apsidal
horsemill.
House: S elevation: droved red ashlar (other elevations
coursed rubble) with polished dressings and rusticated
quoins. Pedimented and architraved central doorway with
swagged frieze, date in tympanum; recessed 9-panelled door
with decorative fanlight; sash windows with 4-pane glazing;
band course at base and between floors, eaves/lintel band and
cornice; straight skews; end stacks, slate roof. Central rear
door below stair window.
Steading: Some 18th century buildings incorporated, but
present form presumably largely contemporary with house.
Essentially 4 ranges built around open courtyard, latter
entered from NW corner through (ashlar) flat-arched
overthrow. Red rubble with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs. W
range (possibly built second half of 18th century) a fine
2-storey barn with 2 tiers slit ventilators to both
elevations (some now blocked), keystoned and basket-arched
large barn doors to flanks, similarly detailed cart entrance
to court at S end, 2 W-facing cart-arches inserted; horsemill
to NW. Plainer E range also 2-storeys and built in at least
2 phases; low S range clasps corners of adjoining ranges and
has pedestrian pend to house. Slate roofs.
